For the third year on a row, the Gothtronic crew has gathered to create a short summary of 2006. The lists that are the result are the personal opinion of our crew members, and show what releases we think was worthy.

Of course there are albums that are "forgotten", or albums that we won't discover until next year, the year thereafter or not at all. It does mean that these list are definite among the best offerings of 2006. With so many people, so many genres on this site, and so many different reviewers - each with their own taste & preferences - it's practically impossible to make an overall list, but it's for sure that some names jump out of the rest. In CD-releases, that's She Wants Revenge (self-titled album), Depeche Mode (live in Ahoy, Rotterdam) and Tool (both live ánd on CD).

Noticeable is the lack of EBM-releases. Besides Mesh and Seabound, there were probably very few really interesting releases. But, this leaves a lot of room for rising stars on the often mentioned Cold Meat Industry-label. Also, Spiritual Front has been named a series of times, and there's obviously attention for the comeback of Derniere Volonte and of course Bauhaus. Then again hardly for that of Leaether Strip.

To conclude, we hope you had a great 2006, and hope for an even better 2007. It's for sure that there will once again be new names to notice, old heroes rising and plenty of happenings, both on disc, in your living room and of course on stage.

Surprises:

- Discovering the German band Spaceship Landing. They play incredible stoner rock and when a band is named after a Kyuss song you just know you're in for something good.
- Hearing My Shameful for the first time.
- Hearing Jesu's Silver EP, the new music really made me look forward to the next full length.
- Seeing Phil Anselmo back in shape and performing like his old self with Down.
-Seeing the rumors of a new Down album get confirmed.

Disappointments:
- Reading Spaceship Landing broke up.
- The new Blut Aus Nord album 'Mort', after releasing nothing but excellent to decent material, this collection of utter trash came out this year, and I was really looking forward to it as well.

Muzikale ontdekkingen:
Eminence Of Darkness; zó lief en zó vrolijk, dat het iedere kater wegblaast. Het tweede album “Displace the Trace” is verschenen op Fear Section, dat nu eindelijk een goede release gedaan heeft. Verder de albums van Spiritual Front (“Armageddon Dildo”), s:cage (met het briljante “Madness Turns To Glass”) en de opstanding van Rome. 

Positief:
Opnieuw een heerlijk WGT, zij het korter en rustiger dan afgelopen jaar. Met eigenlijk slechts één nacht flink doorgetrokken (tot 7 uur ’s ochtends), maar wel een enorme besteding aan CD’s opnieuw een unieke ervaring. Verder een jaar waarin ik een boel ervaring heb opgedaan, voornamelijk door, maar zeker niet beperkt tot school en mijn afstudeerproject. 

Negatief:
Waarom heb ik geen rituele geiten-offers gezien op 06-06-06? Verder heb ik mijn eigen presteren te veel laten afhangen van personen, en waar ik hard voor heb moeten boeten. Een half jaar goed werk verpest, door slechte begeleiding & zo mogelijk nog slechtere studiegenoten. Dat heeft zich jammer genoeg ook doorgezet naar mijn productieviteit mbt Gothtronic, maar dat heb ik weer in een versnelling hoger gezet. 

2007:
In 2007 dan eindelijk met school klaar, mijn lijst met “bands-die-ik-per-se-live-wil-zien” afmaken door Nine Inch Nails te zien (2x zelfs). Misschien ook maar ’s een degelijke auto kopen die niet doorheeft dat ik naar concerten in Arnhem, Nijmegen en Enschede wil. Daarnaast kijk ik erg uit naar de nieuwe albums van Tarmvred en Zeromancer.
En verder.. tja, ervaring leert dat goede voornemens toch verkeerd uitpakken.

Biggest surprise of the year:
The show of Corvus Corax at Lowlands (Cantus Buranus) was the most amazing
and wonderful live experience of this year. They made me forget the rain pouring
down that day. I hope they will perform in this setting again.
 
Disappointment:
I was supposed to go to a concert of Covenant and Rotersand in Germany, but
unfortunately I had to cancel at the last moment. I really hope to see them play
some day.
 
Personal notes:
- As a gothic newbie I'm still discovering lots of great bands and I've met some great
people too, thanks to Gothtronic :-) The above is just the "gothic" part of my
musical favorites of 2006
- In 2006 an old dream finally came true: visiting Japan for one month.

Opvallend vind ik het opkomende Italianse label Punch. Erg interesante releases,
een label die ik zeker in de gaten ga houden.
 
Verder wens ik iedereen iedereen het beste voor het komende jaar waarin ik hoop
dat er weer veel te beleven valt op muziekaal gebied met goede CD’s (liefst LP’s
natuurlijk) en een hoop goede concerten (Januari zal in ieder geval goed beginnen
met Coph Nia en Troum In Club Moulin Noir (the Stage, Arnhem))
