The White Lies are pretty big in Holland. A few months after the release of To Lose My Life this act constantly has been accumulating fans with their enthralling which uses the best ingredients of The Joy Division, The Chameleons, pop/rock and wave. The 22nd of October is definitely the proof if the popularity. A sold out Watt with a variety of people; from wave till pop lovers they were all there packed in this big venue. A thousand people anxiously waiting for these young British chaps to enter the stage. Â
Unfortunately, due to some parking problems I only experienced one song of opener act Darker My Love. Since this is not enough to get a decent impression I will skip this. After a long wait at ten o’clock White Lies entered the stage with the excellent song Farewell to the Playground. This immediately set the right atmosphere for the rest of the show. Together with the sober lightshow and the charismatic singer Harry McVeigh the crowd purely enjoyed the songs played. Musically a nearby perfect performance is displayed with exception of the sometimes out of tone voice of Harry. Of course all the songs of the To Lose My Life album passed the revue. Absolute favourites were To Lose My Life, Death, A Place to Hide and the beautiful song E.S.T., but they also played a new song and the Talking Heads cover Heaven. After an hour and three encores White Lies left the audience. Although White Lies played just for an hour the show was an exhilarating experience which fans will treasure. I certainly will. Mark my words White Lies is going to be big and next time we will meet them it will be in even a bigger venue. And I will be there! Review by: Erik
