Halloween is an excellent opportunity to see bands. In Manifesto (Hoorn) four extraordinary bands performed on the day of the feast of all exuberance, extravagance and exaggerated scaryness, so off course a Metal-Dark-gothic festival was planned. And I am here especially for Elizium, the second band in row. The rather small concerthall was decorated accordingly with spiders, cobwebs, skeletons and creepy people.
I really have the craze for Elizium because the band is coming from my hometown, people I can bump into anywhere I live. I don’t know them very long, but I learned that their debut album ‘Angel of Mistrust’dates back from 2006. Today the band alternate old and new songs. It’s music you either love or hate and there is nothing in between. The band labelled this kind of music Gothic-Metal.
And then … the into started, after a few seconds the guys hit the stage, extraordinarily dressed with wonderful coats with a fine, dark aura. Unfortunately the garments and clothing is often neglected by bands, and it’s so important for the whole performance! I don’t understand why the don’t pay much attention to this aspect, but Elizium knew how to do it!
Â
Ode to Death
The concert started with ‘Ode to Death’, in which the voices were tuned very well, even including the bassplayer. Unfortunately I missed the keyboards that’s was maybe drown by the sound of the bass.
Â
Tragic End
A melancholic song, flavored by a litte doom. De singer sings with an echo, and that’s what makes the sound of the Elizium so recognisible. Either you like it or you hate it, and I really love it.
Â
Nevermore
This song has many shifts in speed, this way the song is very exciting and diversified. I get so excited listening and watching the bands performance!
Reaven/Die Alone
These are both new songs. It shows that the musicans have so much fun. There’s a lot of jollying and fooling around on stage between the songs..
Angel of Mistrust
This song is realy one of my favourits because the singer sings knows how to convey the feeling of losing the love of your life. Such melancholy.
Â
Frailty
Frailty is a delicate song about human weakness and vulnerability. At the end of this song the keyboardplayer almost dropped his instrument with a wild twist. It scared the hell out of me. Well done! But all things come to an end and this was the last song of Eliziums show.
Elizium is a professional band and all the members deliver real teamwork. A little more interaction with the crowd is only a small recommendation. And please, give the poor keyplayer a better place on stage! Its such a pitty that he was hardly visable. Elizium, wouldn’t it be time to release a new album when you’re so gifted? I know, as a huge fan, I’m dying for some new songs, so I am challenging you ….
