Metal Female Voices Fest Birmingham - Saturday 7 November 2009
City: Engeland
Location: Birmingham
Website: http://www.theasylumvenue.co.uk/

While in Birmingham we accidently stumbled upon the band Delain. They told us that they were one of the main attractions of the Metal Female Voices Fest in the club Asylum. The proceeds of this fest wil be entirely dedicated to the foundation for fighting Cancer.

In a bit of a backwater you’ll find this club Asylum, a funny local joint for no more that 400 people, where the Metal Female Voices Fest was taken place. The pub is decorated with skulls and other typical metal and gothic emblemata. The waiters and waitresses are dressed accordingly (see picture 1). At the beginning of the Fest the hall was stuffed with people, all dying to see bands like Lahannya, Carcamon, Markize, Bodyva, Winterstorm, Hand, Apparation.

For Delain, this festival is a wonderfull opportunity, because it’s their first concert in Britain, that’s why I dedicate this review to them. Like the band I was really anctious to know how the British public would be received. Entering the concerthall, your attention would be immediately drawn to the stage with it’s very impressive huge banners.

The openingssong for Delain is “Invidia” which immediately elicited a hugh applause by the audience. Charlotte, the leadsinger, was dressed in a charming leather suite. She was apologizing for the fact that she had to speak in perfect English, but the crowd didn’t bother, they just loved her.

Just before the band played “Stay Forever”, Charlotte announced that Ronald decided to leave the band and this was his last show with Delain. That’s the reason why several germans and dutchies attended the show. Personally I’m sorry for the fact that Ronald is leaving the band because he is such an awesome guitarist and ‘grunter’. I felt privileged that I was able to take part in his farewell party. I will definitely miss him, but I’m sure we will hear from him again!

“Go Away” was played tremendous and the choreography of smoke on stage was awesome. The guitar-players switched places on stage, so everyone was able to see his favourite very close by.

De English audience completely got crazy at “The Gathering” and “Sever”. The sound is really good this night and the horns coming from the keyboard are very impressive and clearly audible. “Frozen” had such a magical atmosphere, I really loved this show!

Favorite song of Charlotte is   “Nothing Left” and she sang it with a very clear voice. During this number, it’s such a joy to watch Ronald and Martijn perform and interact with each other.

“April Rain” was such a cool song ang performed so well, followed by “Sleepwalkers Dream”and “Control the Storm”. The english crowd completely tore the house down. It shows that Charlotte is really enjoying the concert and it’s clear that she must have felt very special being attending this fest with these wonderfull people.

“Silhouette of a dancer” was the last song and at the end Charlotte addressed the audience by saying: “you have been wonderfull”. But Charlotte, Delain, you are equally wonderfull!!!

After two encores “Virtue” and “Vice & Pristine” Charlotte still didn’t want to leave the stage and Ronald ended the show by shouting: Do you drink   beer?

Delain, it was a marvellous and awesome show! Thanks!
