100 Burning Guitars

Interview:
- Akanoid: Civil Demon

<< Back

100 Burning Guitars is the new EP of the German electrorock band Akanoid who last year made an acceptable debut with the album Cocktail Pop. That recording featured some striking songs such as ‘The Legacy’ and ‘On Air Again’ and these are now present in a remix on this new EP which mostly focuses on a couple of new songs. The first one is the heavy rocking indie song ‘100 Burning Guitars’ with which Akanoid immediately sets the tone. The next song ‘Pain’ shows next to an acceptable pop sound also exciting breakbeats and samples. ‘Unbreak Me’ goes completely bezerk in the extended mix. Compelling vocals, nice beats and intelligent electro grooves with heavy rocking guitars and excellent songs result in exciting electrorock music. The guitar and drums form a steady base with Akanoid which ensure they do sound as a band. I am curious what they will sound like in a live setting as it promises to be good.

Akanoid plays convincing indierock with electro undertones. Akanoid could musically be compared to a heavier guitar oriented version of Apoptygma Berzerk and IAMX, while the vocals of Hilton Theissen remind strongly of De/Vision. Quality wise it is quite good what Akanoid does and the music has commercial potential with a much wider audience too. Akanoid surely is a name to remember.
