The German band Akanoid is developing and becoming a very talented electrorock band. The previous EP was a nice one but on the full length album Civil Demon all expectations are met. Immediately the band kicks off with a new short cut mix of the melodic rock song ‘Unbreak Me’ also featured on the previous EP, followed by the price song of the last EP ‘100 Burning Guitars’, which is a great electrorock anthem. The new trademark of Akanoid with a heavier guitar sound combined with danceable rhythms and synthesizer melodies are perfectly demonstrated in the strong track ‘Jump into the Hive’. Apoptygma Berzerk would be jealous they did not write this song themselves. ‘All the Noise’ reminds strongly of Innerpartysystem. The musical versatility of Akanoid is clearly demonstrated by a perfect sense of melody and tension in catchy and compelling songs.
Technical capacities are proven with a song like ‘Nexxus’ which carries several progressive elements. The danceable song ‘Pain’ will no doubt be a big hit at concerts. Hilton Theissen again proves he’s a gifted vocalist with a voice many bands in the dark music scene would be jealous on. Listen for example to the vocals in ‘Climax’. Civil Demon really delivers on all fronts. Civil Demon from Akanoid is recommended to fans of the music from bands like Innerpartysytem, Shiny Toy Guns, Zeromancer, Celldweller and Apoptygma Berzerk.
