The Belgian duo Els Pynoo and Danny Mommens have become very popular in the club circuit with their sexy electroclash. They now have their sixth album out and with that you may ask what is the relevance of Vive la Fete once every venue and party has been visited during every concert season. Disque d’Or answers this question but the answer is not very positive. Disque d’Or is a plain boring album which doesn’t add a single thing to the Vive la Fete oeuvre. On this album you’ll also not find any hits like ‘Maquillage’ or ‘Touche Pas’. Alright, ‘Naïve’ is kind of funny as AC/DC pastiche and ‘Petit Colibri’ as well as ‘Baiser Canon’ do echo the success of earlier hits, but this will not be enough on a new studio album. For ‘On A Oublie’ Danny seems to have studied the guitars of The Cure’s ‘A Forest’ very carefully. On Disque d’Or the synthpop and electro of Vive la Fete starts to become a boring routine due to the lack of strong tracks. The quirky voice of Els starts to work on your nerves too. When also the lyrics are as dumb as in ‘Everybody Hates Me’, it is about time to press eject. Disque d’Or is a waste of time. You’d better play a record like Nuite Blanche.
