Breaking New Ground

<< Back

Five years ago the German formation Future Trail released the album Big Sky Horizon. Future Trail is now back with a new album but whether they have really touched new ground, is highly questionable. Compared to the debut the band shows far too less growth and development. The voice of Mel sounds again cold and erotic, but especially musically nothing much has improved. It however is also striking that Mel can’t convince in slower tracks like ‘Players’. Still Future Trail plays atmospheric EBM and electropop with songs that resemble each other too much. The guest parts of Dirk Steyer from Accessory (‘Panic’) and Dirk Ivens from The Klinik (‘Landslide’) do not change that although these two tracks contain more energy than most other songs on Breaking New Ground. At the end of the album a cover is featured of the Depeche Mode song ‘Satellite’ but this is also not impressive. A bit of a chance missed, really.
