The new album of the Italian project Nosound is a pleasurable surprise. This project from Giancario Erra creates a nice laid-back atmosphere with elements from progrock, ambient and postrock. A Sense of Loss is the third album and only contains 6 songs, but these are of exceptionally high quality. Where the previous album Lightdark bordered traditional rock, Nosound chooses with A Sense of Loss for more postrock centred spheres. The sound in tracks like ‘Fading Silently’ and ‘My Apology’ sound warm and organic, the sounds are melancholic and the vocals really fit well in these atmospheres. The organic sound is reached by the usage of acoustic instruments and a string orchestra completes it nicely. Fans of label companions like Anathema, Porcupine Tree or even David Sylvian should check Nosound. There’s a fair chance you will like what you hear.
