When the two grandmasters in the martial industrial and neo-classical genre Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio and Triarii join to produce an album, of course one’s interest is triggered immediately. The disadvantage is that of course the expectations are high and it is therefore difficult to match these. The recent Triarii album Muse in Arms was a very convincing album and Ordo Rosarius Equilibrip is known for its constant high quality. Also the ‘Roses for Rome’ track the two projects wrote for the Triarii album Piece Heroique was quite beautiful so let us see what the album Three Hours brings us. After a first listening it is immediately clear that the album very much sounds like an Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio album. The contribution of this project is most recognizable in the sound on Three Hours. Of course the influence of Triarii is also traceable and most obviously in the simple and effective melodies, but the structure of the neofolkish songs with a slight orchestral martial background lies the closest to Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio. Yet after further listening the close collaboration can also be found in the harmonic vocals of Tomas and Christian together in some of the tracks and it is also clear that the percussion and choice of samples is done by Triarii. The theme of transition, evanescence
and the influence of time is intelligently presented in the lyrics. Tomas shines with his voice and shows he has become a really good vocalist. Highlights are ‘After Summer We Fall’, ‘Another Love, Another Hate’, ‘No Tears Are Shed For You And Me’, ‘Pleasures & Tortures’ , ‘Let Us Meet in the Trenches’ and
‘Europa’s Dream’. Concluded: Three Hours sounds like an excellent Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio album that musically is enhanced by Triarii and as such is not very surprising. The atmosphere of course is pleasurably dark and melancholic and the songs as well as the vocals are of high quality. This makes it mostly an album meant for those who just can’t get enough of these two apocalyptic neofolk projects.
