World Painted Blood

Slayer doesn't need an introduction anymore. The band has an enormous reputation and is one of the most successful bands in the history of metal. The new album "World Painted Blood" will most likely sell really well, but that's definitely not because of its quality. Slayer hasn't been releasing interesting albums for years now and "World Painted Blood" once again shows that they're not capable of delivering an amazing thrash metal album anymore. The choice for producer Greg Fidelman (notorious for Metallica's "Death Magnetic") made me fear the worst already and his expected incompetence came true. "World Painted Blood" doesn't have a powerful sound at all and the bass drum sound is downright disastrous.
Of course, the sound isn't the most important thing, as the songs can really make or break an album. However, the songs are rather precarious on "World Painted Blood", because ferocious thrash grenades like "Unit 731" and "Public Display Of Dismemberment" are polluted by weaklings as "Americon" and the ridiculous "Playing with Dolls". Sometimes, during the more aggressive songs, you can hear Slayer's slumbering qualities, but all in all, "World Painted Blood" has become a downright mediocre album. I can only recommend this album to devoted Slayerfans; if you're interested in high quality contemporary thrash metal, I suggest you try Darkane or Submission.
