Subconscious Primitv Musick

<< Back

I was pleasantly surprised when got the opportunity to review a package with the first three Neue Kultur releases inside. A brand new label formed by Gabriel, Also mastermind behind Luna Dopa. A label with a philosophy. Neue Kultur tries to bring the listener deeper into his subconscious through music. A possibility of magic realization to go deep inside psycho-space to find the true essence of being.

Not only the label is new to me but so are all artists on this compilation, except for 1997 EV whom I already knew from their outstanding debut Dead.Ends.Sinful on Italian Punch records.   This leaves me nine new bands to discover and none of them did disappoint me. In fact this is a wonderful compilation CD with great coherency. It is this coherency that often lacks with compilations, but here the label philosophy and the theme of the music takes care for it.

The title of this fine compilation covers the contents as the music is dream music for the subconscious. The arrangements are simple or primitive if you prefer that word. The mesmerising music is mostly based on analogue loops and post industrial rhythms and has a dark psychedelic atmosphere. Spit It Out for example has a slow pulsing rhythm with dreamy, perhaps nightmarish background sounds bringing the listener in delirious state. There is a continuous repetition in all tracks which create a bizarre alchemic effect that takes the listener deep inside the essence of this psychedelic journey. You will be lead along tribal psychedelia with spiral sound structures by 1997 EV. Definitely a fine ritualistic piece of music while Extern Ycon is creating a soft blanket out of random noise. This chemistry does work well here with looped chirping and scratching transforming into a mesmerising drone. The simple sounds of Derlist are seductive and wallow the listener with a two tone organ. India Von Halkein creates a vertigo with a strong hypnotic effect sucking you up deep into a dark atmosphere. Neuronic Org. is like a crackling rotating wheel with a solemn sound effect which is pitched up slowly. Kia Kamra has a magical atmosphere with a monotonous organ drone and dreamy vocals. La Comtesse Morte is alienating and cinematic. TZII has a strong orchestral loop which gives a slight martial effect which is monumental and hypnotizing. But Luna Dopa starts this CD with a dense mystic piece to introduce the listener into this utmost fascinating psychedelic experience.

Subconscious Primitiv Musick is a surrealistic and psychedelic adventure that repetitive sequences turn into an engulfing experience of post industrial tribalism. The acts have created warm sounding tracks that are mesmerising and magical to end your long winter nights. Neue Kultur has brought us a fine CD with the finest magical dark ambient and is therefore a recommendation. Neue Kultur is a new promising label to keep an eye on.
